The Dr. Brown's Specialty Feeding System is a unique bottle/nipple/valve system designed specifically for infants and bottle-fed children who have severe to profound difficulty in expressing a fluid bolus efficiently during sucking. Infants with conditions such as cleft lip/palate, oro-neuromotor dysfunctions, congenital heart disease, common or rare syndromic sequences, and craniofacial anomalies will benefit greatly from using this system. The system includes a unidirectional flow valve called the "Infant-Paced Feeding Valve," which is inserted into the silicone nipple at the base and placed into the collar.

Once the Dr. Brown's Specialty Feeding System is fully assembled, it allows the infant to use their own tongue and jaw movements while sucking to properly express and deliver a fluid bolus into their intra-oral space for safe swallowing. This method of feeding is "infant-directed," enabling the infant to feed safely, efficiently, and successfully. The Dr. Brown's Natural Flow bottle is fully vented to create a positive-pressure flow for vacuum-free feeding. As the baby feeds, fluid enters the mouth, and air is channeled back through the nipple and vent system, preventing the negative effects of a vacuum.

If the Specialty Feeding System is leaking, it may be due to the collar being too tight or loose, or the insert and reservoir not being properly assembled. It is important not to mix formula directly in the bottle, as shaking may cause the internal vent system to separate and leak. Only use Dr. Brown's nipples specifically designed for the Specialty Feeding System to ensure proper functioning.

The set includes two 4-ounce specialty feeding bottles with a special design to assist in the management and treatment of complicated oral feeding issues. With a focus on creating positive feeding experiences that are efficient, successful, and safe, the system also helps decrease gassiness and burping without the need for squeezing. Additionally, it is easy to clean in the dishwasher, sterilize, and autoclave for convenience.
